A couple of months ago, I decided to try listening to
an album a day for 30 days. I asked my
Facebook friends for suggestions and I found a list of new albums on Spotify,
the app(application) that I use to listen to music on the internet. It turned
out to be a fun challenge and I’ve continued to listen to new stuff, since.
I’m not
saying that I enjoyed everything I heard and a few times I even felt like
turning it off, but a challenge is a challenge and I stuck to it. I tried to listen to a variety of music and managed
to cover country, classical, rock, French pop, techno, traditional folk, pop, punk,
easy listening, jazz and blues. For the
most part, I enjoyed some of the songs on each album but I realized that I much
prefer to listen to a mix than one particular artist and that I prefer to
listen to certain types of music at different times of day.
Here are some of the albums that I really liked.
The Shocking Miss Emerald by Caro Emerald
Recto Verso by Zaz
Didn’t It Rain by Hugh Laurie
Right Place, Right Time by Olly Muirs
These are some
pretty big names but if you keep an open mind and take the time to check out some
of your local bands or suggestions from your Facebook friends, there are some
real jewels out there. The more support these artists receive, the better
opportunity they have at achieving their dreams. Here are some of those artists to check out,
and if you have anyone to add to the list please do so in the comments.
Danke!

I would recommend the Canadian folk duo "Dala". I saw them perform live for the Vinyl Cafe in Barrie a few years ago. Laurie and I bought the album "Who do you think you are?". Later my sister took Maeg to see them, again in Barrie and Maeg bought their album "This Moment is a Flash".
ReplyDeleteHere's a video of a live performance but they have produced proper music videos, too. These albums we listen to start to finish.
