A few years ago, Mauri was lucky enough to drive through The Netherlands during tulip season and felt that it was an experience not to be missed. So, we decided to take a long weekend at the beginning of May and go for a drive. We weren't sure about the timing this year since winter had been so cold and spring came a bit later than usual but it turned out to be absolutely perfect weather and perfect timing to see the beautifully coloured carpets of tulips and hyacinths.
Just in case our timing was wrong, we decided to visit the Keukenhof Gardens where we were guaranteed to see lots of flowers. Only open for 8 weeks of the year, Keukenhof averages 100,000 visitors a week and they mostly come from abroad. There are varieties of bulbs that you've probably never seen, some highlighted on their own and others mixed in the most incredible combinations. Definitely a worthwhile visit if you're a flower and garden enthusiast or even if you just love the beauty of nature.
Here are some of the photos we took. Enjoy!
p.s. Thanks to Mauri for taking some really great pics.
