I was just a kid when I met my first Doctor
and the world of sci-fi. All I could remember of the show was Tom Baker, his
scarf, the blue police box and some pretty strange aliens when Doctor Who came
back on the air in 2005. This new Doctor
and the two more to follow were a phenomena that I couldn't resist with it's incredible
companions, revamped old and new aliens, wonderful storylines and great
spinoffs to boot. And the best thing
about it all was that I got to enjoy these new shows with Alex.
When we had the opportunity to visit the Doctor Who Experience, in
Cardiff where they film, we took it. We
didn't really know what to expect. Like really, what can you expect from a
museum that's built around one television program. We were pleasantly surprised. As we entered the 'experience' with our
group, it felt like we were thrown into the middle of a Doctor Who episode. The
story, the tactile experiences and making sure to keep our eyes open when
confronted with the weeping angels made it seem quite real and exciting. Of course, the Doctor, along with our group,
whom he kept referring to as shoppers, saved the day. After this, all that was left was to check
out all the fantastic paraphernalia from the past 50 years of Doctor Who.
Just
a side note. The night before our
experience, we ate dinner at Eddie's Diner, a 1950's American style diner, in
Cardiff Bay. We thought the place sort
of looked familiar but it wasn't until we went to the loo that we realized
why. There was the Tardis on the back
wall by the toilets and a memory of Matt Smith in a cowboy hat came flooding
back into our memories. We were like star-struck, giggly kids. Here are some of the pics we took.
